Bed Bugs and Beyond: How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are well known around the world as miniature nocturnal bloodsuckers who prey on your flesh while you sleep and cause painful welts. Most people, whether they’ve been bitten by bed bugs or not, have surely been warned of the dangers through the iconic rhyme. Now, however, you actually have to deal with them for yourself, and you realize that bed bugs bite whether you let them or not. Here is what you should and shouldn’t do if you have these annoying creatures in your house.

What Not to Do

There are many things that people do in haste when they find bed bugs in their house, which usually doesn’t solve the problem and may even make the situation worse. One thing you shouldn’t do, for example, is immediately toss out all of your belongings at the first sign of trouble. There’s no reason to throw away your valuable possessions when you have bed bugs, especially considering that most of them hide in the sheets, carpets and furniture. Trying to get rid of them by trashing your clothes will just spread them further throughout the house. Also, don’t try to run away from your problems by staying at a friend’s house and hoping your bed bugs will go away. They won't, and worse, you may even give your friends the same problem.

What You Should Do

First, get a bed bug encasement for your mattress. These are made of a material which, when you wrap it around your mattress, exposes the bed bugs outside of the encasement, and starves the ones within. Keep this around your mattress for a couple of days, and your bed should be pest free. As for your clothes, put them in the dryer at a temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit for twenty minutes, as this is the temperature which bed bugs and their larvae cannot survive in and they will drop dead faster than you would imagine. Lastly, to remove the stragglers, clear your house of any debris which bed bugs could use to hide in, and give your carpet a thorough vacuuming. Do all this and bed bugs will continue to be no more dangerous than their nursery rhyme.

There’s no advantage to having bed bugs in your house, so if you have these pests, why not use every weapon at your disposal to get rid of them? For more information, or to receive quality pest control services, contact B&B Exterminating today
