Ridding Your Home of Insects

B&B Exterminating Blog

Most homes have insects living within its walls. Insects enjoy interior living quarters for the same reasons as people do: they are warm, and they have food. However, few people want insects as roommates, so here are some ways to drive unwanted pests out of your house and keep them out.

How to Get Rid of Insects

Since you can’t hunt down each individual fly or cockroach and personally show them the door, you’re going to need to strategize if you want to make your house as inhospitable to insects as possible. First, dry up any puddles, open water sources, or damp spots around your home: typically, around sinks, boiler rooms and bathtubs. Everything that’s alive needs some form of moisture to survive, and insects are no different, therefore, if you cut any chance that they have of taking a drink, you’re bound to shorten their lifespans considerably. The same goes for food as well. Make sure to sweep and clean regularly and lock up all the food you have in airtight containers to make sure the only one eating your food is you. Finally, spray some pesticides around your house, making sure that’s it’s safe, and that you follow the label directions.

How to Keep Insects Away from Your House

Once you have taken the necessary steps to send the pests in your house packing, it’s time to make sure they don’t return. Seal up any cracks or openings you find around window screens, doors, roof tiles, walls and floorboards. Also, make sure the outside of your house is pest free by keeping your yard clear of debris, trimming bushes, mowing your lawn regularly, and if you have any firewood, making sure it’s stacked at least 20 feet away from your house. If insects don’t find your homes’ exterior enticing, they’ll be less likely to venture inside. Lastly, you should have an exterminator spray the perimeter of your house to make sure that your home is fully protected from insects for good.

Even though houses are the preferred place of residence for both insects and people, it just takes a little ingenuity to make them unlivable for pests while you and your human companions can enjoy them perfectly.
