Winter Pests to be on the look out for

When winter weather hits, pests look for safety and warmth just like anyone else. They do not mind if you send them an invitation or not, they will let themselves in and get comfy if you allow it. The experts at B&B Exterminating have seen all creatures big and small, these are the winter pests you should be on the lookout for.

Mice and Rats

Mice and rats are different species with common looks and interests. Once inside a warm residence, they prefer to stay in the dark but are always looking for a meal. Rodents are considered highly dangerous because they carry diseases that are dangerous to humans. They leave their droppings everywhere and love to chew through electrical insulation and wiring, as well as food storage containers.

Roaches

If you see one roach in your residence, there are likely more you do not see. The World Health Organization describes roaches as “unhygienic scavengers in human settlements.” Roaches are dangerous because they carry various strains of bacteria that can trigger asthma attacks and cause illnesses such as dysentery, diarrhea and a host of other ailments due to them leaving their droppings throughout your cabinets, floors and countertops.

Spiders

Being bitten by a spider whether poisonous or not is something you will not forget. Most of them die when the cold sets in. If they make it into a warm home, they can wreak havoc on your home as they build webs and find their way into your pantry. Thankfully, most spiders are not poisonous to humans but they can cause pretty nasty wounds from their bite, depending on the species. Spiders will sense your presence long before you notice them, so check your home regularly for spiders and webs.

Raccoons

These master scavengers rarely go into homes, but if they have an opportunity, they will be happy to turn your attic into their new crib. Fast, large and dangerous, raccoons carry the potentially lethal disease called rabies. It is best not to try to take these on by yourself, so please contact an expert to remove these critters.
